Unreal Hong Kong Weather

Hong Kong Weather Today:

If you are planning to have a fulfilling trip in Hong Kong, you must not skip this page.

Hong Kong has a sub-tropical climate. The weather is quite stable during the year. It rains a lot during the summer. Typhoon occurs two to three sometimes up to five times a year. The temperature is usually around 15-33 degree Celsius.

Spring (February – April)

When housekeepers are replacing moisture absorbents in their closets, or the floors, handrails are damp, even though it’s not raining that day.

Spring is around the corner. Usually Spring is very short and Summer will just come in no time.

Summer (May- August)

With 80-90% humidity, it actually feels much hotter than Bangkok, where the temperature is constantly 33-40 degree Celsius throughout the year. Any "body" could easily smell like a rotten egg after a day's work, especially after being squeezed in a bus or Mass Transit Railway. Thus, although the actual temperature is not as high as many other cities near the Equator, it actually feels much hotter.

Autumn (September – November)

After the mid-autumn festival, (which is usually in the middle of September), the weather is apparently getting cooler and the humidity drops quickly.

It is a happy season in Hong Kong. I like it best amongst the four seasons.

Winter (November- January)

It is awful especially a breeze comes from the Mainland which can make the temperature suddenly drop 2-3 degrees, with no fore-warning. It's not unusual that Hong Kongers put on 2-3 sweaters at home during winters.

Most residential buildings in Hong Kong, do not come with central heating system. To me, living in Hong Kong during winters is sometimes poorer than living in North America.

The Trend

Hong Kong is getting hotter and hotter. Many skyscrapers have been constructed during the last two decades. Heat, air pollutant and combustion from offices, vehicles and air-conditioners intensify the effect, which make Hong Kong a burning oven.

The best month to visit Hong Kong, is April and October, when they are neither too hot nor too humid. Well, if you enjoy sun-tanning and beaches a lot, summer is great.

Weather changes

Hong Kong weather may change suddenly. It's recommended that you read the weather forecast before leaving home.

You may also wish to understand these symbols before planning your daily trips while you are in Hong Kong.
