It's Hong Kong, SAR not SARS

The present status of Hong Kong is that of a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China better known as Hong Kong SAR.

The Chief Executive

The Chief Executive is answerable to the State Council of the PRC.

The Chief Executive has the legislative power to appoint a fifteen member Executive Council that has the sole responsibility to assist in the administration of the Region.

The Hong Kong Government has a vital constituent in the Legislative Council, which has sixty members. Thirty of these are selected from functional constituencies, while twenty-four of them are elected from geographical constituencies whereas the Election Committee elects the remaining six per se.

The Hong Kong Government is synonymous with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and is headed by the Chief Executive better designated as the Head of the Government.

The prevailing Head of the Government is none other than Donald Tsang Yam Kuen. The Chinese was elected to office on the sixteenth of June Two Thousand and five. The Chinese held the appointment of Chief Secretary for Administration prior to being elevated to the present position in the Hong Kong Government.

The Election Process

The election of the Chief Executive is conducted by the eight hundred members Election Committee in the Hong Kong Government.

The prerequisites to hold the office of the Chief Executive is attaining a minimum of one hundred nominations from the Election Committee – which was attained by Donald Tsang on the sixteenth of June Two Thousand and five making him the only canditate to attain the requisite nominations making the elections scheduled for the tenth of July Two Thousand and five redundant in this instance.

The History of Hong Kong SAR

Chronologically the first Chief Executive to assume office in the Hong Kong government was Tung Chee Hua on the first of July nineteen ninety seven having been elected by the four hundred member strong Election Committee and held office for the scheduled five year term. Tung went on to assume office for a second consecutive five year term in the year Two Thousand and Two considering that he was the sole nominated canditate.
