The Hong Kong Convention Center was erected as a physical venue for the historic transfer of power and is symbolic of that memorable moment.
The Hong Kong Convention Center was conceptualized and erected with the express purpose of conduction of the hand over ceremony on June 30, 1997.

The Hong Kong Convention Center is picturesquely located on reclaimed land on Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island.
The Hong Kong Convention Center Extension was conceptualized in 1994 and became a reality by 1997.

This is unique in itself considering that it is one landmark in architectural design in Hong Kong, which is not a skyscraper. The main conference hall has an enviable view of none other than Victoria Harbor.
The design was conceptualized by Chicago based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in close collaboration with local designers Wong & Ouyang. This is not surprising considering that high quality architecture is the third most valuable cultural export of Chicago second to only better known Al Capone and Michael Jordan!
The main attraction of the building is the Grand Hall with a capacity of accommodating over four thousand people. It was this hall that was used for the main ceremony on the said day at midnight and was attended by leaders from the world over.
The structure is an architectural marvel, which goes a long way in further enhancing the attractive skyline of Hong Kong with stunning effect.
This architectural masterpiece is symbolic of a seabird in flight and is replete with an all aluminum roof.
The Hong Kong Convention Center is a visual treat by night complete with a symphony of lights and interplay of three bands of light.
A lesser-known fact about the Hong Kong Convention Center is the fact this building is located in an exclusive district - the Wan Chai North - however few maps will validate the fact.

The Hong Kong Convention Center is best captured on celluloid or film on a clear day or better still on a clear starry night from the "Avenue of Stars". So the next time you see this architectural masterpiece in all its glory you know how the image was captured!
