April 4, 2006 21:51 - Special Chinese Dish

Tonight, my friend and I went to a Shenzhen restaurant. On the restaurant manual, I saw a dish called "Dog Meat Pot" - RMB48 (USD6).

Amazed, I waved at the waitress and asked her if it was for real. The waitress smiled and replied, "Yes!"

I could not believe what I saw and tried to reconfirm with her again.

She smiled and replied "Do I look like I am kidding?"

I queried neither the manual nor the waitress. Dog meat being commonly served in restaurants in Shenzhen just stunted me. Before leaving the table, my friend jokingly said, "If you want to taste dog, you may as well order a "doggy" sandwich."

"Yeah, I surely will count you in when I order one," said I reluctantly.

Believe it or not:

* According to Chinese ritual, eating dog brings 7 years misfortune.
** Why do Chinese eat dogs? It is alleged that it brings "supernatural" sex power.

Well worth the superstition? The choice is yours. :)
