All About Hong Kong

November 13, 2005 02:30 - Violent Japanese Cartoon

My brain has been scammed for the last hour while I was blogging the below entry.

I left my TV turned on and a Japanese cartoon was playing for the past 2 hours.

I did not think the cartoon was that bad until now - when I think about it.

What's it about?

It showcased some monsters slaughtering mermaids and eating their flesh in order to prolong their life. The rest of the story: You don't want to know.

I really don't understand why cartoons these days are so violent. TVB is broadcasting them every weekend around midnight.

Is our society not violent enough?

These Japanese cartoons are gaining their popularity. However, not only do they not add value to our society, they really pollute our minds.

I believe, as a Chinese, we have seen and experienced enough violence from the Japanese.

We don't need any more mental torture.

To TVB: Hong Kongers DO NOT need bloody cartoons!

For Christ's sake, remove them all!

November 13, 2005 23:16 - One World One Dream (Slogan of 2008 Olympic)

2008 Olympic Mascots

The Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) has announced its mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

I have watched the promo for the Olympic Games, which included an simple animation. The design and the meaning of the mascots are insightful. They include a panda, a chiru (Tibetan antelope), a swallow, a fish and the Olympic flame, each of which corresponds to a natural element: earth, sky, sea, forest and fire.

The first syllable in each name, when put together, forms the phrase Beijing Huanying Ni, which translates as Beijing welcomes you.

Some Chinese think the mascots are cute, while some think the mascots are too many.

What about me?

I think the mascots could be more cute.

Maybe they look very much alike and they have no character at all, or maybe they are just too new to me.
