All About Hong Kong

Home : UnReal HK Diary : October 2005 : 2005-10-12

October 12, 2005 19:59 - A Tiring Day

Today is a public holiday in Hong Kong. What's it? It's called "Chung Yeung Festival".

I have heard a story some years ago, that a Christian girl rested in peace in the Lord because she did not obey his dad, who requested her to bow and burn incense to the ancestors on Chung Yeung Festival. His dad slapped her face. She rolled along the slope and dropped dead.

It was a pretty sad story. It's rather difficult to fill in the gap, as some old Chinese still have a pretty strong "ancestor-oriented" belief.

I pray that no more sad stories of this kind will happen again.

By experience, I understand every family has its story, usually a difficult one too. It's always easier said than done.

Nevertheless, my parents never request me to do rituals like cleansing graves and paying ritual respects to my ancestors. If not, I would have to struggle a big time as well.

What did I do for today?

I went over to WanChai and Central and took some 200 pictures for you.

Thus, I am exhausted, after several hours walk in the sun. I will post those pictures soon. Stay tuned.
